Dean Lavelle, a pioneer and ambassador
to the world of wakeboarding.
(In the Beginning)
Dean started his professional water-sports
career at
Sea World in Orlando, Florida. Working every day on the
water year round is where this veteran of the sport honed
and polished his skills on almost every discipline including
ski, barefoot, kneeboard, jumping, air-chair and of coarse
wakeboarding. For the next 5 years Dean would achieve
the highest level as a Sea World Show Skier and take the
sport of wakeboarding to a new level. For the remaining
5 years of his 10 year career with Sea World, Dean would
remain on as a reserve Show Skier as he pursued his
professional wakebaord career.
(Time to go Pro)
Dean's pro career took off when he won the
WWA Mens Open World Championship
in 1993.
After winning the Worlds in 93, Dean
began his 5 year reign as one of the best in the World. Taking the
SeaDoo Expression Session in 1994
and the Behind the Boat Expression
Session in 1995 made way for his victory
in the WWA Pro Tour Worlds in
1996. Dean also finished in the top
5 at X-Games in 96, 97 and 98. |

(PR)
While competing and training Dean found time to
appear in several wakeboarding videos including Switch, Switch22, Hit
It and Skurfs Up. During his professional career he would also find himself
making the cover of National and International industry magazines including
Wakeboard Magazine USA/Japan , Level 10 and Water Ski Magazine. Water
Ski magazine did an article where he was referred to as "Mr. Everything"
as he was so accomplished on most if not all water disciplines. He even
found his way into a few commercials that aired nationally. At one time
you couldn't pick up a wakeboarding magazine without seeing Dean's name
or face somewhere inside.
(The Pioneer)
As part of the Hyperlite family Dean had his own signature boards including
the Lavelle and the Latitude. He was one of the first riders to push Hyperlite
into the development of the Boot/Binding. He was also instrumental in
the research and development in the evolution of the wakeboard. Switching
endorsement to Neptune boards, Dean found himself in a similar role in
R&D of Neptune Bindings. Universal still utilizes Dean's design on
their current line of bindings.
(The Ambassador)
Competing and Coaching at an International level means travel and here
are a few places the tour took Mr. Lavelle.
Australia (Dean was competing there when
some of today's Pro's were just getting started) Singapore
(Dean was very instrumental in pulling off their first successful local
competition) Malaysia (Dean
did the same for Malaysia's first competition),
Japan, South Africa, France, Spain (where
he lobbied the Olympic committee to make wakeboarding and Olympic sport)
Germany, Sweden, Amsterdam, England,
Switzerland, Brazil, Canada, British Virgin Islands, Mexico and Tahiti.
(The Teacher)
With all this experience and knowledge of wakeboard
and other water disciplines, there was only one thing to do, teach!
Dean Started the Lavelle Train Station. Combining years of experience
with unbelievable patience and his disarming personality, Dean is a natural
at teaching. He can take any student at any level and get the best out
of them. His genuine attention to the student and ability to find and
remove the problematic areas make him one of the most successful instructors
in the biz.
(Current)
When Dean's not teaching you can find him persuing his other passion.
Moto-x jumping. That's right, he went from flying through the air behind
the boat to flying through the air on his bike. Building a portable ramp
(designed and welded it himself), Dean
often takes his Jump Show on the road. So keep your eyes open, he may
be Jumping through your town someday.
During his entire career, Dean has conducted himself in a such a manor
that he earned the respected and admiration of his peers and fans. The
world of wakeboarding has certainly benefited from Dean Lavelle, the consummate
professional.
